¿Qué Necesitas para Trabajar en Hoteles de EE. UU.? Guía para Colombianos
Trabajar en hoteles de Estados Unidos es una excelente oportunidad para los colombianos que desean adquirir experiencia internacional, mejorar su nivel de inglés y avanzar en su carrera profesional. Sin embargo, es fundamental comprender los requisitos y procesos necesarios para lograrlo de manera legal y exitosa.
1. Comprender la Visa J-1
La visa J-1 es una de las principales vías para que los ciudadanos colombianos puedan laborar legalmente en Estados Unidos en el sector hotelero, especialmente a través de programas de intercambio cultural y profesional.
Características de la Visa J-1:
- Propósito: Facilitar el intercambio cultural y profesional mediante prácticas o entrenamientos en empresas estadounidenses.
- Duración: Generalmente, entre 6 y 12 meses, dependiendo del programa específico.
- Sectores aplicables: Incluye hotelería, turismo, gastronomía, entre otros.
- Requisitos del participante: Deben estar inscritos en una institución educativa o haber egresado recientemente, y contar con un nivel de inglés suficiente para desenvolverse en el entorno laboral.
2. Requisitos Generales para Colombianos
Para ser elegible para trabajar en hoteles de EE. UU. bajo la visa J-1, los ciudadanos colombianos deben cumplir con los siguientes requisitos:
- Edad: Generalmente, entre 18 y 32 años.
- Estado académico: Ser estudiante universitario activo o haber egresado en los últimos 12 meses.
- Nivel de inglés: Tener un nivel de inglés que permita comunicarse eficazmente en el entorno laboral.
- Salud y antecedentes: Pasar exámenes médicos y no tener antecedentes penales.
- Oferta de prácticas o entrenamiento: Contar con una oferta de prácticas o entrenamiento en una empresa estadounidense participante del programa J-1.
3. Proceso de Solicitud
El proceso para obtener una posición laboral en hoteles de EE. UU. incluye varios pasos:
a. Inscripción en un Programa de Intercambio
El primer paso es inscribirse en un programa de intercambio aprobado por el Departamento de Estado de EE. UU., que actúe como patrocinador del participante.
b. Obtención del Formulario DS-2019
Una vez aceptado en el programa, el patrocinador emitirá el Formulario DS-2019, necesario para solicitar la visa J-1.
c. Solicitud de Visa
Con el Formulario DS-2019, el participante debe solicitar la visa J-1 en la embajada o consulado de EE. UU. en Colombia, presentando la documentación requerida y asistiendo a una entrevista.
4. Documentación Necesaria
Para la solicitud de la visa J-1, se requiere la siguiente documentación:
- Pasaporte válido: Con una vigencia que cubra el período de estancia en EE. UU.
- Formulario DS-160: Formulario de solicitud de visa no inmigrante.
- Formulario DS-2019: Emitido por el patrocinador del programa.
- Comprobante de pago: Del arancel de solicitud de visa.
- Documentos adicionales: Como certificados de estudios y pruebas de solvencia económica, si se requieren.
